Garcias Entering Mission Field Fri, Feb 5th

Patrick and Brandon'a Garcia are coming home to leave again!

Several years ago, the Garcias came to Waterview and placed membership. During that time, the fire of evangelism and missions grew in their hearts. Three years ago Patrick resigned his job here and moved to Lubbock to study at Sunset International Bible Institute.

He and Brandon'a have a passion about working for the Lord in Mexico. After good discussions and much time in prayer, the Waterview elders have agreed to be their sponsoring congregation. We have invited them to partner with us for a year and come to Waterview for a few months to work out details of our partnership.

During their time with us, you can make (or renew) bonds of fellowship, listen to the Garcias dream, hear Patrick teach, and participate in the process of the plan for Mexico.

Latino Involvement in Recent Events Fri, Feb 5th

Iglesia de Cristo has some good news as they serve God in our facility.

  • The congregation has donated $1000 to Waterview to help with relief efforts in Haiti.
  • Over 20 teens from the congregation will participate in LTC in conjunction with the Waterview teens.

Haiti Relief Fri, Feb 5th

With the devastating earthquake hitting Haiti, aid to that hurting nation was needed immediately. Several congregations moved to meet the need and several excellent works are going on to relieve the suffering.

After investigating, the Waterview congregation will work through Healing HandsInternational of Nashville, Tennessee. This group of brethren has vast experience over several years mobilizing aid in other catastrophes such as hurricanes. Within hours, HealingHands International sent $300,000 worth of medicine to Haiti.

Working with local Haitian congregations, they are using aid to feed the hungry, help the hurting, and provide purified drinking water to those in need.

So far, Waterview members have contributed $ 9,361 toward the effort. If you would like to help in this cause, see one of the elders or ministers.

Robert Taylor Returns from Nicaragua Fri, Feb 5th

Robert Taylor returned safe and sound following a five day medical mission trip to Nicaragua. Robert spent time observing the breakfast program at the Rene Polonco church in action. He was able to preach for the church last Sunday morning. He will give a full report on our very effective work in Nicaragua on Sunday, February 28th in conjunction with our quarter collection.

Dr. Mani Pagadipalli Thu, Jan 28th

It hasn't been too long ago that we had Mani here at Waterview for a one-week preaching internship. When he was here, he was finishing up his school work at Bear Valley Bible In- stitute in Denver.

Even with that good education for ministry, Mani felt that he needed some more education in Christian Evidences. With that purpose in mind he enrolled for some "online" courses at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee.

Likewise he wanted to return to Waterview to do one more internship with particular atten- tion to learning presentation skills.

Mani is doing all this preparation in order to prepare himself to return to his native India and preach the gospel. Even though he has an M.D. degree and has been trained as a surgeon, he believes his position in the medical profession will give him great opportunities for preaching.

So we welcome him back to Waterview today.

A Thank You From Robert Ogelsby Thu, Jan 28th

How nice to have competent men on staff who can bail out a sick preacher in such a won- derful way. In 47 years of preaching at Waterview, I don't remember ever getting sick during the night before I was to preach - but I did it last week. Robert Taylor did a wonderful job with 2 hours notice on Sunday morning. Myron and Robert then teamed up for an inspira- tional Sunday night "Sermon in Song" service. I hope you know how blessed we are! My thanks to both of them for a job well done.

Bible Teachers' Workshop Thu, Jan 28th

Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington will host the 3rd Annual Lone Star Bible Teacher's Workshop on February 6. For more information, see the flyer on the bulletin board in the foyer or check their website www.lsbtw.org.

New Wednesday Evening Class Thu, Jan 28th

In the month of February, a special video class featuring videos by Dr. Bill Humble will be held in S101. Dr. Humble was an exceptional teacher of church history. His videos feature information about our Restoration heritage and an interesting segment on archeology and the Bible.

Ladies Retreat 2010 Thu, Jan 28th

Tapestries are delicately woven works of art; each thread is woven by a skilled artisan who sees his finished masterpiece long before each strand is laid in place. In much the same way, God knows the pattern He is creating (Psalm 139:16). While the threads of our lives may seem dull and overwhelming to us at times, God has known since the beginning how each of our individual lives (strands) adds to His work of art. Only in eternity, will we fully appreciate the full magnificence of God's Grand Tapestry. Please join us for the 2010 Waterview Ladies' Retreat, Saturday, February 27th, to discover your place in God's tapestry. Spend the day with us from 9:00 to 4:00 at Frisco's beautiful Stonebriar Country Club and listen as our speaker, Sonia Oltmanns, shares the beauties of being a living part of God's grand design. Registration starts Sunday, February 7th. Cost is $30.00 per person which includes breakfast and lunch; $12.00 without meals (scholarships are available). Join us for a vibrant and enriching day of fellowship and praise as we explore our place in God's Grand Tapestry.

New Life Celebration Next Sunday Thu, Jan 28th

Next Sunday you will meet the newest additions to the Waterview family. Our New Life Celebration celebrates the new life in the families at Waterview as well as showcasing the generation of the future. By encouraging parents to raise faithful children, we contribute both to those families and to our own future. Next Sunday morning all adult classes are dismissed and a single class will be held in the auditorium focusing on three perspectives of raising faithful children in all the phases of life. You will be introduced to the families who have new babies at the end of the morning worship assembly. Following our morning worship, a luncheon will be held in honor of those families. All are invited to come to the luncheon but we need help with the side dishes (the meat is furnished). Please go by the transaction counters and sign up to bring a dish to help.

Helping Haiti - An Update Thu, Jan 28th

Your television set has been feeding you a steady diet of the awesome destruction and loss of life suffered in Haiti.

We have no shortage of willing givers who want to do their part in alleviating the rigors of pain and death that came so suddenly upon this island society. The dead are being buried by the thousands, and the survivors are struggling to find housing and food. This is all compounded by the poor infrastructure or the lack thereof.

Last Sunday morning you showed your compassion by donating $7,150 as a "first fruits" offering. This was done before a decision had been made as to how the distribution of help was to be done.

As you know, in such emergencies people are often overwhelmed with compassion but don't necessarily make the right decision about how to help. Since we want to make your contribution do the greatest good possible, the Elders have been exploring the possible conduits to use in transporting our love offering to those people.

Many of you have made suggestions about using sources that you are aware of, and each one has been checked. The Elders were looking for the source that had the most experience in this kind of aid, and one that could get the aid to the point of need most efficiently.

No one can ever know which is best, but after some research the Elders recommend that we send our help through an organization known as HEALING HANDS, INTERNATIONAL.

Not only does this organization have specific experience in ministering to disaster-torn areas, they also have people on the ground who are working through Haiti Churches of Christ.

With this in mind, let us remind you that this crisis will not be a short one. In the days and months to come, the need of the Haitians will continue. So if you feel called upon to do so, Waterview will continue to collect money for this relief work. Make your checks to Waterview, and mark them for the Haitian Relief Project.

What is Modest? Sun, Jan 24th

Modern society lost its ability to blush years ago. MTV, movies, and tabloids have x-acto knifed modesty from the dictionary.

Yet, as a parent, you still have to address it. If you have daughters, shopping for clothes is a journey into the Twilight Zone. Short, tight, and revealing populate store racks. Popularity and conformity drive many decisions.

Michael Hyatt raised five daughters and struggled with the same issue. He knew that a ruler at a hemline could not truly define modesty. Instead, he and his wife came up with four guidelines for modesty. The guidelines transcend time and will fit years from now as well.

  • If you have trouble getting into it or out of it, it is probably not modest.
  • If you have to be careful when you sit down or bend over, it is probably not modest.
  • If people look at any part of your body before looking at your face, it is probably not modest.
  • If you can see your most private body parts or an outline of those parts under the fabric, it is probably not modest.

Following these guidelines provide parents with some direction, but also help teens establish a standard for a lifetime.

Before your daughter (or even son) leaves the house, both of you sit down together and review the guidelines. You will teach a lesson that goes beyond size, texture, and length.

Helping Haiti Thu, Jan 21st

It's hard to fathom, but on the small island of Haiti as many as 200,000 people have died due to the recent earthquake. Disease, distress, and hunger hang around the streets like stray dogs.

Due to harbor damage and runways being unus- able, relief aid has been slow to get to the is- land. Yet, this past week, things began to open up.

Last Sunday, the elders held a special prayer for those suffering from the earthquake and were exploring the best way for Waterview to help in the efforts.

Currently, more than a dozen churches and relief agencies have rushed to get material to those in need. With the widespread destruction to airports and harbors, effectively getting help to those who need it is difficult. Waterview is investigating several churches and groups to determine how best to get supplies to the churches of Haiti and help the most people over a long period of time.

We are collecting funds to be used for the Haitian relief effort as we finalize the best plan. If you would like to contribute, please give your donation to one of the elders or ministers. Make checks payable to Waterview and marked "Haiti."

We will continue to update you on the work to rebuild the impoverished country.

Family and Friend Day Next Sunday Thu, Jan 21st

Do you need a reason to invite your friend or a family member to church with you? If so, next Sunday is the "excuse-busting" Sunday. Next Sunday is our first Family and Friend Day, sponsored by our Heart2Heart greeter ministry. They want you to invite people to come, sit with you, and get acquainted with the warmth of the Waterview family. Specially prepared invitation cards are available at both transaction counters. Pick up a few and invite a friend to join you next Sunday for Family and Friend Day at Waterview.

New Life Celebration Just Around the Corner Thu, Jan 21st

February 7th is speeding toward us. That day is our annual New Life Celebration. Parenting is difficult and the church must encourage and prod parents to raise their children to love God and serve Christ. That is the grand goal of the day. In addition, you will get a chance to meet members you may not know– those who brought new babies into their homes this past year. Not only do those babies bring joy to those homes, it points us to the next generation at Waterview. On February 7th all adult classes will meet in the auditorium at 9 a.m. and a special luncheon honoring our families with new babies will take place following our morning worship. Sign up today at one of the transaction counters in the foyer to bring a dish for the luncheon. Meat will be provided, but please sign up to bring vegetables, salads, or desserts. Make plans now to bring a dish, stay for the luncheon, and enjoy the fellowship.
