Jesus in Revelation – Pt 1

It's easy to approach Revelation with fear and uncertainty. There are many things in Revelation that are confusing to us today that, apparently, was more clear to those who were accustomed to apocalyptic literature in the first century. But, Revelation does one thing we often miss: Revelation reveals Jesus. It's a beautiful and powerful thing we shouldn't miss that we want to expose in two brief lessons called "Jesus in Revelation."

Overcoming Criticism

This lesson isn't about learning to handle criticism. This lesson is learning how to be less critical. It's true we need to learn both, but our country and churches will be much healthier if we can learn to practice less faultfinding and more good-finding. After a discussion about the problem of criticism, we looks at some solutions for overcoming criticism.

Be Like Peter

If you could be like any Bible character, you might not choose Peter first. We remember his shortcomings, but because of this fact, we probably can resonate with Peter. In 2 Pet. 1, we find some attractive traits that Peter had that should make us want to follow in his steps and "Be Like Peter."

Overcoming Impatience

How important is patient endurance? In it, Jesus says, "you will win your soul" (Lk. 21:19). Our ability to overcome impatience is not just a need for getting along, but getting to heaven. This lesson's goal is to help us understand what patience really is and to understand why we need it and when we'll need it.

Overcoming Yourself

We are sometimes our own worst enemy. Satan knows this and he'll use our tendency to focus on ourselves to cause us be overcome. It is true that God wants us to "overcome" through his Son. But one of the things the Lord said we must also do is "deny yourself." This lesson looks at practical, biblical steps to "Overcoming Yourself." Subscribe in iTunes Subscribe on YouTube

Better Beware (part 2)

The letter we know as "Hebrews" tells us of the reasons Christianity is "better" than Judaism (see part 1). In part 2 of this lesson, we also consider another feature of Hebrews that "warns" about the dangers of turning your back on the best (Christ) for something inferior (anything else). Overcoming

Our culture speaks of winning and losing on a daily basis. Spiritually speaking, winning and losing is the same thing as being saved or lost. Or, another way of saying it, it's the same thing as overcoming or being overcome. This lesson is the introductory sermon for a series about God's desire for his people to "overcome."
