You've heard of both of these men, but in John 19 they are found at the foot of the cross preparing the body of Jesus for burial. What's so significant about this? This lesson explores the great risk and reward of faith these men took to "come out" for Jesus.

The Nontraditional Teacher

The Nontraditional Teacher

As a non-traditional Rabbi, Jesus drew many followers that came to hear him teach. As he taught them, he would say things that many did not understand, and sometimes it would cause them to stop following Him and His teaching. However, when many left, it was Peter who recognized that Jesus had the words of eternal life that are written and recorded in our Bibles so that we too can believe and come to know that He is the Holy one of God.

Honesty is the Best Policy

Honesty is the Best Policy

Truth has become a casualty of the moment. When needed, we shave the truth, or at least, cross our fingers behind our back. It is a sign we don’t want to really tell the truth. The 9th commandment directs honesty. Dishonesty comes in many forms but honesty has one form—tell the truth in love all the time.

A Shepherd’s Description

A Shepherd’s Description

It's a monumental task to cover the two lists of qualifications for shepherds found in 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. However, in this lesson, we break down those 34 qualities into five discernible groups. This is how God describes the kind of men he wants to shepherd and oversee his people in the church.

Repentance: Gotcha or Godly?

Repentance: Gotcha or Godly?

In 2 Cor. 7:8-11, Paul shows us two kinds of sorrow. The sorrow of the world is one kind. This may be what one experiences when they get caught or exposed in wrongdoing. The other kind of sorrow is better: it's godly sorrow. This sorrow cares more about God than self and leads to the kind of change God requires men to make to please him: Repentance.

A Shepherd’s Desire

A Shepherd’s Desire

The most important work in the church is the work of a shepherd. God designed the church with the built-in benefit of men leading and protecting the body of Christ. This lesson reminds us how important that work is and how good, spiritual men need to aspire for this office.
